Entrance to the underground - The beginnings of Abysforge 0.5.9.
Update to version 0.5.9. This is the first update that is the direct result of a player vote.
The option that received the most votes in the development roadmap was the underground city and the race of hostile constructors with a lizard-like appearance.
After a week of work, we have placed the entrance gate to the underground city in the Thalor Valley.
The underground city itself, in terms of map size, is equal in scale to the entire valley. However, in this update we can explore about 30% of the underground map.
After entering the underground area, we have a minecart at our disposal, which we can use to travel through the tunnels toward the city.
In this version, we will also encounter a new enemy: the Ferrognat – the Guardian.
The gameplay now also includes platformer elements – while traveling by minecart, we must dodge traps set for intruders on the way to the gates of the underground city.
The tour in version 0.5.9 ends right at the city gates. Apart from being fully playable, this update still requires a lot of additional work.
The real challenge here is not only the level design, but also achieving balanced, spectacular, yet computationally lightweight lighting.
It is very likely that a consensus on this issue will only be reached many weeks after the entire underground level is finished.
In summary, the underground city – Abysforge – is already capable today of delivering a really pleasant and immersive journey deep into the caverns beneath Thalor Valley...
